What what’s up Divi Addicts? Welcome to another episode where this week we’re talking about podcasting, we’re talking about the thing that you’re listening to this very episode on. And there are a million different platforms out there that you can listen to podcast on. But we’re talking about how you can start your own podcast, specifically with anchor. And this comes hot off the heels of the release of the news that Spotify has acquired anchor. I’ve been on anchor for quite a while now since early to mid 2018. And almost almost to the year mark, and anchor is evolved a lot. And it is an amazing tool. And I’m here to debunk anything about the past that you may know, is in regards to starting a podcast. You know, in the past, a lot of people have shied away from it because it took a lot of work, you know you had to find a podcast and platform you had to have distribution, you had to get approved by iTunes, all the different gatekeepers made it difficult for you to really kick things off and get started. The easiest part was recording the actual audio.
Keegan 1:30
Now that’s even easier with anchor. So if you could do is go to anchor.fm sign up. And you can even sign up with your Google account. I mean, even the signup process is very, very easy. The best thing about anchor is that there’s a really killer mobile app, their app is incredible. And it’s perfect for you if you are somebody who’s even a web developer, or if you have your brand and you’re working. You know, there’s a lot of topics that we talk about here on Divi addicts that are gonna cross and they’re not just for anybody who’s developing websites, but they’re specifically for the business owner who needs to learn some tips and is interested in web development and wants to do that work themselves. That’s what we’re all about here at Divi addicts. And so anchor takes a very similar approach and it fits right into the toolbox of what you need to execute this properly.
Keegan 2:26
And by that I mean it’s simple, you can install the anchor app on your phone, or you can sign up on the web@anchor.fm you can record the audio directly from your phone. So a lot of times what I do is I go to my phone using a killer, the Samsung Note nine. And this thing records awesome audio by just putting the phone to your ear. And it sounds incredible. So a lot of times when I’m strapped for time, what I’ll do on the go is that I’ve already got all of my podcast episodes and topics already listed out in Asana. And I’ll just go pick up my phone, open Asana, see the topic, I’ve got my notes and my research for what I want to talk about. And then I’ll open up the anchor app, start a new podcast episode. And I will just hit record and put the phone up to my ear. And I’ll start talking as if I were talking to somebody on the other end of the phone just to a friend. You know, I have my customer Avatar and that’s a, you know, mid 30s or early 30s person who is work the career decided they don’t like it, and they’re ready to do their side hustle build their own brand, like that’s who I am speaking to in Divi addicts, this is for the side hustler who’s ready to build their own thing.
Keegan 3:43
And that’s where anchor fits in. Because I just go to town and it’s like I’m talking directly to that single person. And it’s just like having a conversation on the phone. But the recording audio is incredible. If you go back and listen to the just the last couple episodes that I’ve done. That audio is 100% from the the phone of the term, the Samsung Note nine I mean it is 100% from there, with the exception of the intro music which is obviously music with me talking over it that is that I couldn’t really do on my phone. But the the meat and potatoes like the core of the podcast itself was recorded 100% of that phone that in my mind is a game changer. And that’s why anchor just got picked up by Spotify because they’re a great tool. And there’s something that is just it’s changing the podcast game.
Keegan 4:37
On top of this and this is the piece where I think it gets really interesting for for entrepreneurs or somebody who’s doing a side hustle is that there are sponsors who are built into anchor, you know, currently anchor and Flipboard both sponsor this podcast. So, you know if you’ve gone back and listened to any of the episodes in the archive, you know we’re sitting on 37 episodes in the archive now. We’d love for you to go back and listen to him. But as those episodes start, you hear a reading from me, for our sponsors. And each time those get listened to their sponsorship money that comes in. And it’s it’s not much, but it’s, it’s something and the more we grow the podcast and the more listeners we get, you know, the more that money is going to come in and allow us to up our game, to be able to produce higher quality podcasts, and to be able to really focus more on doing this, because we’ve got a little bit of income behind it. And we can dedicate a little more time.
Keegan 5:38
The other part of this is that people can support so the user base if they really love what you have, and this is my pitch to you guys. If you really love what we have here on Divi addicts, and you enjoy the content, you enjoy the topics, you can actually support our podcast. And it’s super easy whether you know if you go to Divi addicts.com it’s going to bring you to the anchor FM site for Divi addicts. And all you got to do is hit support this podcast and you get options, you can do it for as little as 99 cents a month. That’s nothing. And if the 120 average person who are average people that listen to these episodes each week, you know if if you guys would all do that, I would be in an amazing position where I could dedicate significantly more time to Divi addicts possibly bring on some guests, upgrade the audio equipment. And just make sure that we’re putting out the best quality podcast with the best content we possibly can for you.
Keegan 6:45
But taking an entire step back, the starting the podcast when anchor, that whole thing is so easy because like I said, you go to anchor.fm you sign up for an account or you can do it all on your phone and you start naming podcasts, you you know you can go into the app. And when you first log in, you have your your podcast, you go to that. And there’s episodes if you’ve created episodes in the past that are listed at the bottom, otherwise, you hit the new episode button, it’s going to bring up the Tools section or you can go and start recording, you hit plus. And you’ve got options, you can have voice messages where people can call in to the podcast. There’s built in interludes and and sounds as well as songs that are tied in for Spotify Premium. So you can bring in second segments of songs if you want to do little breaks. And then you can build your library of content, which is really, really awesome. And all of these are just so easy to import. So what I did is I created an intro that you hear in every episode. And that just becomes part of my library. So added into the beginning of every episode, and then I’ll record the body like you’re hearing right now.
Keegan 7:56
So that’s and that’s really it. Anchor does all the work for you can set the distribution up, and it’ll give you distribution through Apple podcast, Google podcast, Spotify breaker, cast box, overcast pocket casts radio public, so it gives you all of those. And if you have anything outside of that, that isn’t supported natively by their distribution list, you can add it on their website. And when you add it, you just copy the feed, and it it’ll set up the distribution for you.
Keegan 8:25
You can customize each episode you can customize the artwork on each episode, you can name them and seasons online, and you get some pretty basic but stats nonetheless, you get total plays of all time, average plays per episode, and a quick look at what’s in your wallet from sponsors. You also get over overall podcast plays broken down by month, and then the most recent episode downloads and you can change the date and the range for these episodes. And see kind of from episode to episode, how your listeners in total downloads breakdown. And then you can also see where people are listening to your podcast broken down through a ton of different apps like iOS pocket cast iTunes on the desktop, Spotify anchor Android, Alexa, Google podcasts overcast.
Keegan 9:16
That’s something actually thinking of Amazon Alexa, that’s one thing that I don’t mention here on the podcast very often. But we do have an Amazon Alexa skill, which will put the latest Divi addicts episode in your flash briefing every week when they come out. So if that’s something you’re interested in and you haven’t Alexa, jump into the the Alexa app, find our skills just under Divi addicts search for that, you’ll find us and we can be a part of your wakeup routine. We’d love it. So we really truly, really hope that you’re getting some value from the Divi addicts podcast because we love doing it. I love talking Divi. I love talking business. Honestly, I just love the process of creating this audio each week for you. I think it’s really cool. I’m a huge fan of audio music runs through my veins. And audio is just something that I love in general.
Keegan 10:06
So we really appreciate you cannot say that enough, we would absolutely be out of this world excited.
