In this episode we talk about the brand new Gutenberg block recently introduced by Elegant Themes for Divi. So Elegant Themes is finally brought native functionality of the Divi Builder into Gutenberg. This is a huge release that won’t get a whole lot of attention as the theme builder. But it’s an incredibly important release. The Divi layout block lets us have more choice. It fights against some of the criticism that Divi is getting too bloated by allowing the Gutenberg experience rather than the fully featured visual builder for any of the custom posts you’d like to use it on.

This also opens up a ton of incredible layout options. While still using the basic Gutenberg builder, my mind immediately goes to the ease of use for clients. So we can build a Divi layout, then name them accordingly and let our clients use them within the basic WordPress posts. A real world example would be a call to action sign up for a mailing list. So imagine your client didn’t need or want the power of the visual builder. So let’s be honest, it’s really not always a good idea to give them that power. Anyway. So in this case, you could simply build out a nice CTA that was responsive inside of the Divi library. And then you would show your client how to create a new blog post inside of Gutenberg. Insert the Divi layout block, choose that CTA for the mailing list signup that we created, and finally how they would post that new blog post, which would include that customized Divi layout.

That’s just a really, really basic, simple example. But the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. So go out there, create some awesome layouts and let us know your thoughts on this new addition to Divi. They’ve done such an amazing job of creating additional functionality, streamlining the development flow, and it’s just been a great year and a half two years for Divi. But as always, make sure to test this update in a staging or a test environment. If for some reason you update on your live site and things get broken. But don’t forget that you always have the awesome rollback feature that Elegant Themes added the Divi Theme Options.
