What’s up Divi Addicts and welcome back to another episode. This is the seventh season episode number five. And today we’re gonna answer that question of whether or not you still need a child theme when you’re using Divi. And as you know a lot, a lot of questions that come up, especially in the WordPress space, the answer is always a little bit tricky. The real answer here is it depends. But the answer for 90% of you out there is absolutely not.

There are some special occasions or special situations where you might want to adjust the functions dot php file. There may be some different things that you want to do. But truly it’s not necessarily needed for almost everything. I think you know, if you haven’t been to my website yet, go over to Keegan Lanier Media.com take a look at that site and tell me if you think it looks like a traditional Divi website. It is built 100% in Divi using the theme builders the header is part of the theme builder. The footer is part of the theme builder. The blog page is designed with the theme builder. Everything in it is native to Divi and you can do it with just minimal plugins, I don’t think I have any more than about 18 plugins in total. And some of them are extensions or add ons for other plugins like I’ve got easy digital downloads that was on there before, it had four or five different add ons. And there’s a few other things that are on the site.
Keegan 1:43
But I guess I say all that to say, you know, this isn’t like what it was five years ago. WordPress isn’t like was five years ago, the theme market is definitely not like it was five years ago. You know, back in the day, pretty much everyone who built the site, by default created a child theme. And that was you can move things around, you could customize blog pages, you can do a lot of different things with Gutenberg, that in core WordPress has pretty much gone, you know, you don’t necessarily need a child theme. But when you have something as powerful as Divi, and you’ve got this theme builder where you can customize the shell around all of your content. And you can customize the content layout on pages in the way that you can you there’s just fewer and fewer cases where a child theme is truly needed.
Keegan 2:32
And yeah, I just I don’t say that they don’t exist, those cases are definitely out there. And I would honestly more than anything love for you to reach out to me on Facebook Messenger. You can find the links at the website, you can find them pretty much anywhere find us on Facebook facebook.com slash Keegan, linear media, send us a message and let us know the use cases where you think it’s critical that you have a child theme because you know off the top of my head, just knowing how much I’ve been able to manipulate Divi with the built in features. I just have not seen a situation where I would really need a child theme. I can add jQuery, I can add different things throughout the builder and not really need to go outside and set up a child theme.

So that’s what I’m really looking for. If you have some feedback, you have some situation sharing with me, I’d love to hear that. But that’s kind of the wrapping it up. You know, we’re under three minutes in this episode, which is bonkers. This is a very short one. But you know, I just wanted to make this very point very to the point. And, yeah, that’s kind of it. So I hope that you have an amazing, amazing week, and we’re going to tie a little bow on this, I’m going to get you out of this episode and take you into the resource. And yeah, we’ll wrap this thing up.
Keegan 3:44
