28: Closing Out 2021
What’s up everybody. Welcome to another episode of the side hustle to full time web designer podcast. I’m your host, Keegan Lanier. And this is my journey from side hustler. To one day being a full time web designer and running a small agency employing a handful of teammates, and I’m really excited to wrap up 2021 The last year and a half has been a kick in the pants. You know, if I’m honest, I know you all have feeling the same way times have been crazy.
But um, I wanted to wrap this this podcast and put put things into perspective for me, because I know these aren’t giant numbers. But I feel incredible about this, right? So in the last seven days, this isn’t, trust me, I know how small this sounds. But there’s 35 unique listeners to the podcast, I have an estimated audience of 80 people. So that means every week that I show up, I’ve got 80 people in front of me, and I think that’s pretty damn cool. I know, it’s not the, it’s not the sexy numbers that 10s of 1000s or millions of listeners per episode. But that’s okay. That’s not what this is about. All time in three and a half years, I’ve got about 30,000 downloads. And I think that’s insane.
You know, 30,000 people have listened to my voice. And that’s a, that’s a pretty cool thing. I’ve got tons and tons of episodes, you know, over 150 episodes. And that is another one of those things that just really blows my mind. But you know, where I’m at mentally is I’m in a pretty drained place. To be honest with you. This journey is an up and down. And it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. And I think a lot of people don’t talk about the downtimes nearly as much as they do about the good times and the wins because the wins are fun. The wins are there, the sexy thing to talk about right there the thing that gets a lot of attention.
And you know, right now, I guess I’m in a, I’m in a place where I feel a little drained, a little burned out. A little unmotivated to do the podcast, if I’m if I’m honest. And I always want to be honest with you. The over the last six months, you know, I was promoted in my day job. And I now on our on a team. And so it’s a lot more responsibility. I’m doing project management. And we’re working on some very, very different things inside of that day job. And then we were even eight months ago. And so I’ve got a big hand in that. And it takes up a lot of time. And it consumes a lot of energy. But it doesn’t keep me from wanting to get to the ultimate goal of one day being that full time web designer because that is the whole purpose.
That’s my journey. That’s where I want to go. I don’t have a timeline on it. But I do know that it’s going to happen one day. So what does that mean for the podcast? Well, I found a lot of success this year in YouTube. I feel like the tutorials, the things that I do the the technical side of things, and the tutorials on systems and processes really translate extremely well on YouTube, you know, video format, it’s great people can watch people can follow along. Here, it’s a little more difficult. Sometimes I feel preachy, like I’m just I’m just talking, which obviously is the purpose of podcasting, but it doesn’t feel as impactful.
You know, when I look and I see an estimated audience of 80 people, I think that’s incredible. I think that’s, that’s awesome. There’s 80 people out there 80 of you, you’re one of 80 who want to listen to me on a regular basis. And that’s pretty incredible, actually. But I do find, you know, the analytics don’t lie there are more interested in the format of video. And so, you know, it’s got me thinking, it’s got me really looking at where I spend my energy and where I put the most time. And you know, I don’t want to put an end to this because this is a great documentation of the journey from side hustle to full time web designer, and I love the format of podcasting. I listen to podcasts all the time.
Like I am a consumer of this medium, and I love it and you know, it holds a special place in my heart and it’s helped me become a better stronger version of myself. So I still want to contribute here. And so what that what does that mean? Like it’s a lot of words, right? But what am I trying to say? Basically, I’m going to put all of my effort into YouTube. I’m going to put my effort into tutorial videos. And I’m also going to jump on The camera just to do what we’re doing here on the podcast. So I’m going to talk to you about the journey. And the beauty here is that, although I’m not going to be recording 100%, for the podcast, those videos are going to be translated over here into the podcast. So the podcast will absolutely live on. It will continue, you know, for quite a while, hopefully. But my, my focus is tilting just a bit. And so I really wanted to wrap up 22 or 2021. And going into 2022 by saying, Thank you.
I do that every year, you’ve heard me do that multiple times. And you’ve seen a lot of pivot. If you’ve been here for a while, I have pivoted a ton in this podcast, mainly because I just want it to be great, I really want it to be the best representation of what I’m trying to accomplish, and want it to provide value. And every time I feel like things aren’t, aren’t providing value, or like I’m really stretching to come up with content to put out here or even worse, if I feel like I’ve recorded something just to say I’ve got it out there. It just doesn’t feel right to me. It feels like like something’s being forced.
And so with that, you know, I want to I want to make sure that I’m consistent, I want to show up for you, I want to make sure that the the content is out here, and that it’s worth it. At the end of the day, I really just want to make sure that it helps. So the numbers don’t lie, you know, they’ve plateaued for quite a while. And I’m okay with that. Because it’s it’s really been slow growth, since I’ve rebranded to the side hustle full time web designer podcast. And I know it’s gonna continue to grow because it got amazing people like you who are willing to share the podcast with people out there who are interested in maybe starting a new journey or leaving the current journey, they’re on behind and, and going in a different direction. And if that direction is web design, hopefully I can share those tips, you know, and you can put the podcast episodes in front of them that are really going to be beneficial.
And so you know, without with all that kind of said, again, a ton of words, and what does it mean for the podcast, it just means that my focus is not going to be mainly on producing content for the podcast, I’m going to be thinking about YouTube a lot. If you haven’t already subscribed to the channel, I would love to have you there. I’ll link it up in the in the show notes below. You can come over, subscribe, check it out, get active in the comments, I promise you I will I will reply. I love it there the community that we’re building, you know, it’s, it’s it’s been, it’s been a ton of fun, the channel is growing at a pretty steady rate. And I feel really, really good about it.
I just want to, I want to continue to grow that. And then we’ll definitely use videos that make sense to be transcribed and posted over here as part of the Side Hustle to Full Time Web Designer podcast. So I’ll leave you with this. Again, above all else, just thank you. I truly, truly, truly appreciate and, and I’m kind of blown away by what’s happened in this podcast, the numbers that have here so far, the total downloads. I never thought anybody would listen. So I appreciate that. It means it means the world to me. And above that I cannot wait to see you on YouTube, I hope that you come and check out the channel and get active in that community. And let me know how I can help as far as content for videos, you know that the content should be driven by the community and what people need help with. So I’ll be listening, I’ll be watching. And I’ll be putting things out there that are meant to support the needs of the people in that community.
So with that, I’m going to leave you I hope that you have a incredible December, a great holiday, whatever, whatever holiday you observe, you know, Christmas, Hanukkah, whatever. Whatever you believe in, I just hope that you’re having a great day. I hope people are treating you well in your life. I hope you’re spending your time with those that are closest to you. And those that mean the most you in your life, especially after the last two years. We all need a little more happiness, a little more empathy, a little more understanding and a little more unity. So I hope you find that I know I’m looking for it and I want to continue to push the envelope and find in that.
